Over 50 Years of innovation, in many fields, and still working on new ideas and bringing them to the World, has enhanced my capabilities but also given me decades to ponder on the nature of innovation, invention and the creative processes.
Starting as a young novice Nuclear Power Design Engineer aged 20, I learnt the hard way by working on Nuclear Power construction sites to experience the challenges of building these complex structures and being exposed to the practical problems that can easily arise from good design, and even more so, the issues arising from bad design.
That enabled me to refine my design abilities at 23 to be licensed to design new Nuclear Power machines. By the age of 26 I was sent abroad to advise potential clients on how to meet their needs for new Nuclear Plant designs. I had become a leading designer of air-cooled Nuclear Storage facilities.
I was then headhunted by IBM to be an expert demonstrator of the latest CAD capabilities for advances Mechanical Design being exploited by Dassault Systems, Lockheed and Boeing who went on to use computing to completely design entire aircraft. I was an expert in 2D, 3D, Stress Meshing and solid systems by age of 31.
This led me to study large computer systems in-depth, and by the age of 33 I was a qualified IBM Systems Engineer and IBM Sales Representative.
I was a Branch Client Manager from the age of 35 to 39 then was made a Sales Manager in the Branch.
Aged 40, with a broad range of field skills and deep technical knowledge, I became the IBM UK Mainframe Brand Manager
Within 2 years, I was elevated to the position of IBM EMEA Mainframe Marketing Director with a $10billion sales target
Having had a rapid rise through technical and sales positions, I was headhunted by IBM Global HQ to lead the creation of the new IBM Sales Process for all 140k Sellers across more than 100 Countries
Returning to Europe I led innovations and Services Solutions in the IBM Smarter Planet series with a focus on medium to large Green IT Data Centre Facilities
Took early retirement at 56 to work on my own Consultancy. Wrote the Worlds first report on how to reduce Global emissions by over 10% by exploiting IT in seven key areas.
Developed key papers on the detailed processes of Innovation, Invention and Creativity and how to teach these subjects.
Joined a Creativity Charity helping people in difficult circumstances.
Completed Postgraduate Studies in AI at Imperial College aged 70 and joined a fast growing Global Edtech company as a mentor, investor and advisor using all my 50+ years of working in highly innovative roles
